The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Industries, organized a pivotal free workshop titled "𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒐 𝑨𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑳𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒔 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝑺𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒖𝒇𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒓𝒊 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒂." Held on 27th November 2024 at the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), the workshop drew over 150 participants, representing large, medium, and small-scale enterprises.
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐀𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬:
The workshop focused on empowering manufacturing industries in Sri Lanka by enhancing Supply Chain Management capabilities. The twofold objectives were:
𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝑶𝒃𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆: To refine supply chain processes and practices, ensuring sustainable growth and competitiveness in local and global markets.
𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝑶𝒃𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆: To improve employee skills and competencies in managing supply chain functions effectively and efficiently.
The event brought together distinguished guests Mr. Jayantha Gallehewa, President of ISMM and President-Elect of the OPA, 𝐌𝐫. 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐣𝐚, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industries, 𝐌𝐚𝐣. 𝐆𝐞𝐧. 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐔𝐝𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞 (𝐑𝐭𝐝), Vice President ISMM, Dr. Sanath Divakara, General Secretary ISMM and Resource Person, 𝐌𝐚𝐣. 𝐆𝐞𝐧. 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐖𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐚 (𝐑𝐭𝐝), Secretary General, CNCI, Mr. Priyanga Kirihena, Council Member, ISMM and Resource Person, Representatives from ISMM, the Ministry of Industries, and the Ceylon National Chamber of Industries (CNCI) also supported the event.
Special thanks were extended to Dr. (Eng.) Sanath Divakara and Mr. Priyanga Kirihena for their invaluable insights, which significantly enriched the workshop.
This initiative represents a significant stride in strengthening Sri Lanka's manufacturing sector, equipping it to face the challenges of an increasingly competitive global market. By fostering skill development and operational excellence, ISMM and the Ministry of Industries have underscored their commitment to the sustainable growth of the nation’s manufacturing industry.
